Steve Carl

The last two competitors named for Bellator’s season four welterweight tournament are Jay Hieron and Steve Carl. These two have also been paired up against each other in the first round. The fight is expected to take place at the first show of the new season (Bellator 35) on March 5th, but no city or venue has been announced as of yet.

Jay Hieron will finally return back to the cage after a near 13-month layoff due to contract disputes with Strikeforce. Hieron is on a six-fight win streak, including victories over Joe Riggs, Jesse Taylor, Jason High, and Delson Heleno. His last loss was against UFC/Bellator veteran Brad Blackburn back in June of 2007 for the now defunct IFL.

Steve Carl participated in Bellator’s season 2 welterweight tournament, where he made it to the semifinals after defeating Brett Cooper by split decision. That’s as far as Carl would get, as Dan Hornbuckle submitted him with a kimura in the first round. Carl would earn a spot in season four’s tournament after beating Tyler Stinson with a first round guillotine choke in August of last year.
