Two more fights have been added to preliminary card for Strikeforce: Columbus, featuring a lot of Ohio natives. Welterweight prospect, Roger Bowling meets Josh Thornburg, while UFC veteran Jorge Gurgel takes on Tyler Combs in a 155-pound fight. The event takes place on March 5th at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Roger Bowling returns to the Strikeforce cage for the third time since signing with the promotion in November of 2009. He has a record of 1-1 with Strikeforce, both fights coming against Kansas City based fighter, Bobby Voelker. Bowling is considered one of the top prospects in the welterweight division after beating fellow prospects Shamar Bailey and Seth Baczynski early in his career.

Cesar Gracie student, Josh Thornburg will make his Strikeforce debut in Columbus. He most recently defeated Larry Wasson with an early second round guillotine choke at a Gladiator Challenge event last May.

UFC veteran and fan favorite, Jorge Gurgel returns to Strikeforce looking to redeem himself following two straight losses against Billy Evangelista and KJ Noons. MMA experts tend to get frustrated with Gurgel, due to the fact he has such a dynamic ground game, but always keeps fights standing to entertain the crowd. His lack of a smart gameplan, has led to four losses in his last five fights.

Tyler Combs is an Ohio-based fighter, who is rumored to have a long standing grudge with Jorge Gurgel. He’s won two out of his last three fights, with victories over Jay Ellis and Mitch Whitesel. Most recently he was defeated by current UFC roster member Mike Lullo Jr. by a third round armbar.
