MMA Fighting Reports:

Jorge Santiago

– 23-8-0 MMA/ 7-1 Sengoku Record

– 2 Fight Winning Streak

– Notable Wins: Kazuo Misaki (x2), Mamed Khalidov, Jeremy Horn

Sengoku’s middleweight champion, Jorge Santiago was granted his release from the promotion. He’s looking to sign quickly with a top North American organization, likely with the UFC or Strikeforce.

Jorge Santiago has won 11 of his past 12 fights, with his only hiccup being a first round TKO loss to Mamed Khalidov in a non-title fight at Sengoku: Eleventh Battle. He avenged the loss four months later in a rematch for the title, in which Santiago cruised easily to a unanimous decision victory. Most recently, Santiago met Kazuo Misaki at Sengoku Raiden Championships 14, where both men put on an incredible back-and-forth battle. The fight was considered by many to be the “Fight of the Year” in 2010. Santiago survived many scares to earn a TKO stoppage with just 30 seconds left in the fifth round.

Santiago won a four-man, one-night tournament in 2007 for Strikeforce, defeating Sean Salmon in the semifinals and Trevor Prangley in the finals. He KO’d Salmon with a flying knee just 24 seconds in to the fight.

His UFC career didn’t share the same success. After defeating Justin Levens with a first round KO in his promotional debut, he followed it up with back-to-back KO losses to Chris Leben and Alan Belcher, prompting his release.
