After suffering an undisclosed injury during training camp, Steve Carl has been forced out of his fight with Jay Hieron at Bellator 35. King of the Cage veteran, Anthony Lapsley has signed up as Carl’s replacement in the welterweight tournament field. Bellator 35 takes place on March 5th at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, California. All four opening round fights for the welterweight tournament take place on the main card of the evening.

Jay Hieron will finally return back to the cage after a near 13-month layoff due to contract disputes with Strikeforce. Hieron is on a six-fight win streak, including victories over Joe Riggs, Jesse Taylor, Jason High, and Delson Heleno. His last loss was against UFC/Bellator veteran Brad Blackburn back in June of 2007 for the now defunct IFL.

Anthony Lapsley is currently on a four-fight winning streak, including a second round submission victory over Ryan Williams at Bellator 7 in May of 2009. His only loss in his last eight fights, came against former UFC fighter Mike Guymon in December of 2008.
