Thiago Silva’s status for UFC 130 has been uncertain for the last week, following word that his post-fight drug screen after UFC 125 is under investigation by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. As of now, Silva hasn’t received a formal complaint from the NSAC, but the UFC seems to be taking the cautious step and replacing him at UFC 130. Matt Hamill was originally supposed to meet Phil Davis at UFC 129, but the UFC has bumped him up to face Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson on the main card at UFC 130. The event takes place on May 30th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. A lightweight title fight between Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard features as the main event.
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in 3-1 since losing the UFC light heavyweight title to Forrest Griffin in July of 2008. His lone loss was unanimous decision defeat against Rashad Evans at UFC 114. Last November, Jackson was awarded a controversial split decision victory against Lyoto Machida. In the post-fight interview, Jackson even expressed his surprise to ringside announcer Joe Rogan, saying he felt Machida won.
Matt Hamill is on a five-fight win streak, although he was well on his way to losing against current number one contender, Jon Jones, before Jones was disqualified for using “12-6” elbows. Nevertheless, Hamill has put together impressive wins together over Reese Andy, Mark Munoz, Keith Jardine, and former coach on the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ season three, Tito Ortiz.
