Just a few days after his release from Sengoku, Jorge Santiago has found a new home in the UFC. Santiago is expected to meet Brian Stann on the Pay-Per-View main card portion of UFC 130. Stann has been rumored for sometime to meet MMA legend Wanderlei Silva at this event, but Silva has expressed numerous times that he would prefer not to fight the fan favorite and military hero. UFC 130 takes place on May 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and is headlined by Frank Edgar vs Gray Maynard for the UFC lightweight title.
Jorge Santiago has won 11 of his past 12 fights, with his only hiccup being a first round TKO loss to Mamed Khalidov in a non-title fight at Sengoku: Eleventh Battle. He avenged the loss four months later in a rematch for the title, in which Santiago cruised easily to a unanimous decision victory. Most recently, Santiago met Kazuo Misaki at Sengoku Raiden Championships 14, where both men put on an incredible back-and-forth battle. The fight was considered by many to be the “Fight of the Year” in 2010. Santiago survived many scares to earn a TKO stoppage with just 30 seconds left in the fifth round.
Brian Stann has skyrocketed up the middleweight ladder after upsetting Chris Leben at UFC 125 in on New Year’s Day. The win was his second in a row since dropping to the 185-pound division, beating Mike Massenzio in his debut at the weight class. Stann made the decision to drop weight after losing a one-sided decision against uber-prospect Phil Davis.
