Strikeforce Miami: News and Notes

Nick Diaz vs Marius Zaromiskis

Is there any fighter on the planet that’s been more impressive than Nick Diaz? Marius Zaromiskis has crushed everything in his path as of late, and other than that right hand that dropped him, Diaz made him look he didn’t even deserve to be in that fight. Nick Diaz is slowly climbing up the pound for pound greats list. He’s looked better and better with every fight, and pretty soon he’s going to run out of worth challengers at Strikeforce.

Christiane “Cyborg” Santos vs Marloes Coenen

I have to give a lot of props to Marloes Coenen. She hung in there a long time, and proved to be a worthy advisary to Cyborg. Santos was never really in danger during the fight, but Coenen did make her look almost human. A potential match with Erin Toughill vs Santos looks more intriguing than it did before the Coenen fight.

Herschel Walker vs Greg Nagy

First off, congrats to Herschel Walker for being the hard-working competitior he is. He had better technique with only 3 months of training than a lot of young fighters look with over a year of solid training. American Kickboxing Academy deserves to take a bow as well as he looked. AKA has been on a rampage lately, and are slowly becoming one of the best camps in the MMA game. I honestly hope there is a second fight for Herschel Walker. He proved all the doubters, he’s not just doing this for a gimmick. And in case you didn’t know, Walker donated his enitre purse to charity…. Awesome guy.

Robbie Lawler vs Melvin Manhoef

Wow… another fight to prove why MMA is the best sport in the world. Melvin Manhoef was dominating the fight early on with brutal leg kicks and strong, technical striking. Manhoef had Lawler dazed a couple times, and kept patient not to over compensate. After 3 minutes, Lawler could barely stand on his leg and the end looked very near. Then… Lawler connected with an overhand right that completely shut out the lights of Manhoef. It was an amazing fight that puts Lawler’s name back in to title contention.

Bobby Lashley vs Wes Sims

Lashley took Sims down early and preceded to lay a beat down on him as expected. It’s now time for Strikeforce to take charge and get Lashley a respectable fight. I’m not saying throw him in their with the best in the division like Fedor, Werdum, Silva, or Rogers but get a guy that’s going to challenge him some. At 5-0, Lashely has looked dominant, but they’ve all been against noted cans or gimmick fights.

Jay Hieron vs Joe Riggs

It wasn’t pretty, but Jay Hieron won an easy decision victory over the experencied Joe Riggs. Hieron used his precision striking and takedown offense to out point Riggs. You’d think a title shot against Nick Diaz would be next, but it doesn’t seem like that will be the case.
