Welterweights Thiago Alves and Rick Story are set to meet at UFC 130. The bout was confirmed today by UFC officials. UFC 130 takes place on May 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. A lightweight championship bout between Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard serves as the main event for the evening.
Thiago Alves broke a two-fight losing streak at UFC 124, when he dominated John Howard for three rounds, earning a unanimous decision victory. He earned a title shot against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 100 in July of 2009, after putting together an impressive seven-fight win streak together. Unfortunately, he came up short as GSP went on to win an easy judges decision after 25 minutes of fighting. Alves then met Jon Fitch at UFC 117, but was out-wrestled again for another unanimous decision loss.
Rick Story has emerged as one of the top prospects in the 170-pound division. He made his debut in the UFC in June of 2009, dropping a decision to UK prospect, John Hathaway. Since then, Story has put together a five-fight winning streak, looking better every time out. Story picked up his biggest win to date at the Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale, beating previously undefeated wrestling-standout, Johny Hendricks by unanimous decision. During his win streak, Story also picked up wins against Brian Foster, Nick Osipczak, and Dustin Hazelett.
